COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Nov. 19, 2009 – Colorado College is hosting an array of musical events in December, ranging from Balinese music to an a cappella group to an evening of Latin American music. It also offers the traditional Festival of Lessons and Carols, a Christian candlelight service of scripture readings, congregational carols and musical presentations. This service, held in observance of Advent, is now in its 48th year at Shove Memorial Chapel and is modeled after the traditional service at King’s College, Cambridge, England.

Concert: The Colorado College Choir — The Colorado College Choir, under the direction of Deborah Jenkins Teske, will perform Daniel Pinkham’s "Christmas Cantata" for choir, brass and organ and Haydn’s "Mass in Time of War" accompanied by an orchestra. Sponsored by the Colorado College music department.

Concert: Tunjung Sari, Balinese Music and Dance — Under the direction of ensemble director I. Made Lasmawan, Colorado College students will perform on Balinese instruments. Dance students will accompany the musicians. Sponsored by the Colorado College music department.

Service: Festival of Lessons and Carols: "And Every Stone Shall Cry Out" — This Christian candlelight service of scripture readings, congregational carols and musical presentations to observe Advent has been held for 48 years in Shove Memorial Chapel. Modeled after the traditional service at King’s College, Cambridge, England, the celebration reflects the non-denominational nature of the CC chaplains’ office. Musical selections, including "And Every Stone Shall Cry Out" arranged by Bob Chilcott, will be presented by the CC Chamber Chorus and Collegium Musicum instrumental ensemble. College Organist Frank Shelton will play the pipe organ in a sanctuary filled with poinsettias and candles. Sponsored by the chaplains’ office and the Christian communities at Colorado College.

The group has won numerous national awards for its music and is known for their high energy performances. The winter show is the culmination of this semester's work. With guests Michelle Lobato, a nationally known artist with recordings of Southern Colorado/Northern New Mexico music in the Smithsonian Folkways Archives, and Miguel Ojeda, who will perform with his world-famous ensemble, Mariachi Tenampa from Albuquerque, N.M.
